Week 4

"Web publishing" is the development and maintenace of Web pages. "E-commerce" is a short for eletronic commerce. "E-mail" is the short for electronic mail, the transmission of messages and files via a computer network. "E-mail address" is the unique name that consists of a user name and domain name that indentifies the user. "Instant messaging(IM)" is a real-time Internet communications service that notifies you when one or more people are online and allows you to exchange messages or files. "Chat" is the real-time typed conversation that takes place on a computer. "Voice over IP(VoIP)" enables users to speak to other users over the Internet. "File Transfer Protocol(FTP)" is the Internet standaed that allows you to upload and download files with other computers on the Internet. "Netiquette" is the code of acceptable behaviors users should follow while on the Internet.

Week 3

Blog is a short for Weblog, it uses a regularly updated journal format to reflect the interests, opinions, and personalities. Today, most of the teenagers are using blogs.
Wiki is collaborative Web site that allows users to create, add to, modify, or delete the Web site.
Personal Web site is the Web page maintained by private individual or family. People use Personal Web site to share their lifes, works.
The guidelines for evaluating the valur are Affiliation, Audience, Authority, Content, Currency, Design, Objectivity.
Multimedia is application combining text with other media elements.
The graphics formats are BMP, GIF, JPEG, PNG,TIFF.
Thumbnail is a small version of a larger graphic. Used to improve Web page display time.
Animation is the appearance of motion created by displaying a series of still images in sequence.
Video consists of full-motion images, most with sound, that are played back at various speeds.
Audio is music, speech, or any other sound.

Week 2

What is downloading?
The process of a computer receiving information.
What is URL?
A web server delivers the Webpage to your computer.
What is a hyperlink?
Built -in connection to another related Web page location.

If you want to recognize links,the pointer changes to a small hand when you point to a link. Web sites have twelve basic types, they are Portal( Web site that offers a variety of services from one), News( Contains newsworthy material), Informational( Contains factual information), Business/Marketing( Contains content that promotes products or services), Educational(Offers avenues for formal and informal teaching and learnig), Entertainment ( Environment with music, videos, games,etc), Advocacy( Cause, opinion, idea).

What can we do on the Internet?
It can help you to do many things such as searching information, chatting with friends, e-mail, entertaining, news, and so on.

Today: More than 500 million how nodes

Internet is a public, cooperative and independent network, no one controls it. There are two ways to connect to the Internet. The first way is the slow-speed technology, we use the modem in the computer uses a standard telephone line to connect to the Internet, and the connection must be established each time you log on. The second way is the high-speed connection, we use DSL, cable modem, FTTP, fixed wireless, wireless modem, Wi-Fi, and satellite modems, and the connection is always on. The Internet Protocol (IP) address is the number uniquely indentifies each computer of device connected to Internet. The World Wide Web is a worldwide collection of electronic documents. The homepage is the first page that a Web site displays.
